Aurum Muriaticum – The Psychology of Responsibility, Achievement and Depression in Men

Aurum Muriaticum (the Latin name for gold) describes people who carry extreme responsibility, achieve highly and silently collapse into depression. How homeopathy is used within Internal Cartography to map this inner pressure.

In homeopathy, remedies are not only used to treat symptoms. They also describe deep psychological patterns — inner structures that shape how someone experiences responsibility, achievement and self-worth.

Within Internal Cartography, I use homeopathy as a mapping tool: to recognise these inner landscapes and make them visible and workable.

One of the most powerful examples is Aurum Muriaticum, derived from Gold.

The Symbolism of Gold

Across cultures, gold symbolises responsibility, authority, value and moral integrity. It is often likened to Kings and Queens - and it resembles the archetypal qualities of the Solar Logos.

This has nothing to do with arrogance or status. In fact, people who resonate with Aurum can be incredibly humble. They are usually not seen on stage but quietly operate in the background, where the real power lies.
They silently carry an enormous weight on their shoulders while keeping up appearances.

In homeopathy, Gold reflects a similar inner experience: the feeling of being personally responsible for holding things together.

When we need Aurum, we have lost connection to our Solar Logos, our inner sense of Self. Of our deep recognition of our soul purpose in this life.

At some point in their lives, men enter ‘The Tunnel’ - also known as ‘midlife crisis’ or ‘Dark night of the soul’. Usually it’s around their 50th birthday. This is where the connection to the Inner Light seems lost and depression begins. There seems no end to the tunnel, no hope.

I have seen Aurum working a miracle at this stage (and actually experienced this myself at some point in my life). The grey, wet and heavy blanket suddenly seems to lift. There is space to breathe. Light is shining through the cracks…

The Aurum Pattern: High Achievement, High Pressure

Men who resonate with the Aurum Muriaticum pattern are often high achievers. They are dependable, disciplined and driven by a strong inner moral compass. In Chinese medicine (TCM) and Feng Shui, this resonates with the Metal Element.

They often set extremely high standards for themselves (think CEO level or other high functioning positions.
Life taught them to derive self-worth from performance and usefulness, as is often expected from them.
Which results in feeling responsible beyond what is reasonable.
These men carry pressure silently while slowly detonating deep inside…
Outwardly, they function well. Inwardly, the pressure never switches off.
Until…

When Responsibility Turns Inward

Over time, this inner structure can harden. Failure feels catastrophic. Rest feels undeserved. Asking for help feels like weakness. The inner judge becomes relentless.

This often leads to a deep, hidden depression, especially in men who continue to perform outwardly.

Common inner experiences include:

  • Persistent feelings of failure despite success

  • Emotional isolation

  • Loss of joy or meaning

  • Thoughts of being a burden

In severe cases, this may even lead to suicidal thoughts — not impulsive, but as a tragic conclusion of over-responsibility: “If I’m gone, the pressure will finally stop.”

Homeopathy within Internal Cartography

In Internal Cartography, homeopathy is not used as a quick fix.

A remedy like Aurum Muriaticum helps reveal which inner role someone has identified with.
Where strength has turned into self-punishment.
And how responsibility became fused with identity

When used carefully, homeopathy can help soften rigid inner structures, creating movement, perspective and inner space.

It does not remove responsibility — it restores proportion.

From Carrying the World to Standing in It

Integrating a homeopathic perspective can help to map when this sense of responsibility first developed.
What it once protected or compensated for and whether it is still needed in the same form.

For many men, recognition alone already brings relief.
For others, homeopathy becomes a subtle but profound support in rediscovering humanity, flexibility and inner balance.

Strength doesn’t disappear when pressure is reduced.
It finally becomes sustainable.
